The Time That Remains (USA 2016)

HIGH SCHOOL BULLY EDDY AVOIDS GOING HOME AT EVERY OPPORTUNITY.  WHEN HE IS THERE, HE FACES ABUSE FROM HIS STEP-FATHER, BOBBY, WHO SUFFERS FROM PTSD AND THE LOSS OF HIS ONLY LOVE, EDDY’S MOTHER.  EDDY AND HIS SISTER, GRACE, LIVE WITH FEAR OF BOBBY’S EXPLOSIVE EPISODES.  AT THE TOP OF THE FILM, WE FIND EDDY PHYSICALLY AND EMOTIONALLY ASSAULTING HIS NEWEST VICTIM, ALLEN, A NERDY BUT SCRAPPY FRESHMAN.  EDDY STEALS ALLEN’S PRIZED POSSESSION, BUT IS DISTRACTED FROM ALLEN’S ANNIHILATION BY A GLIMPSE OF SOMEONE SPECIAL.  CHARLIE, THE “GIRL NEXT DOOR,” UNKNOWINGLY ILLUMINATES THE SCHOOL COURTYARD AND TRANSFORMS EDDY’S RAGE INTO PEACE—UNTIL……  THIS SOCIAL JUSTICE SHORT STUDIES A SPECTRUM OF HUMAN EMOTIONS, FROM COWARDICE TO COURAGE, AND SUGGESTS HOW A SMALL ACT OF COMPASSION CAN INTERRUPT YEARS OF CYCLICAL PAIN. TTTR ALSO DISCUSSES OUR CURRENT CHALLENGES WITH BULLYING, RACIAL DIVERSITY, GENDER IDENTITY, LGBT ISSUES, PTSD, DOMESTIC VIOLENCE, GUNS, AND THE LOSS OF A PARENT—IN A REALISTIC WAY.  THE GOAL OF THE MOVIE IS TO STOP BULLYING FROM WHERE IT BEGINS – IN THE HOME.  SCORED WITH ORIGINAL MUSIC, THIS GROUNDBREAKING MOVIE IS SHOT ON 16MM FILM BY AWARD-WINNING FILMMAKERS LEADING A CREW OF COLLEGE AND HIGH SCHOOL FILM STUDENTS WHO HAVE EXPERIENCED BULLYING. ABSORB THE RIVETING PERFORMANCES BY ALL OF OUR BREAKOUT TEENAGE ACTORS, AND NOTE THAT AN INCREDIBLE YOUNG TRANSGENDER WOMAN PLAYS THE MALE ROLE OF ALLEN.
