Billy (John Mack Brown) and Sheriff Garrett (Wallice Berry), in this the first film adaptation of the Billy the Kid Legend, are now involved in a friendship or law dilemma. To give the production a boost of sagebrush verité, director King Vidor filmed in and around some of William Bonney's old New Mexico haunts near Las Vegas, New Mexico.
